1981 ~ Class 1 trip to Milford

Within days of the start of the summer term 1981
Class 1 set off for the annual residential School Journey.
Mr Rutter had just taken over as class teacher from Mrs Pocklington,
who had left at Easter. Mrs Spring lead the trip and Father John Smith
from St Martin's, together with Mrs Lafford,
a parent, joined them as group leaders.

We reproduce the group list itinerary and a list of participants below.
Very few photographs of the trip have come to light;
those that we have been able to find follow after.

On the first day there was a visit to Winchester Cathedral.
A chance to draw the scene.

One of the visits during the week was to Beaulieu to study the Abbey remains
and see the historic car collection.

Another trip was to take a boat from near Hurst Castle to see the Needles

During the boat trip there was a close up view of Royal Research Ship Bransfield, purpose-built for the British Antarctic Survey and just returned from Antarctica.

Mrs Lafford takes one last look back at the Needles
before the boat heads back to the mainland.
